On Monday 3 November, Rachel Ward was one of the presenters at the at the 2003 Screen Music Awards at The Hordern Pavilion at Fox Studios Australia.

The APRA - AGSC Awards were hosted by Jean Kittson, and presented by the Director of AFTRS, Malcolm Long, a filmmaker Bill Bennett, actors Marcus Graham and John Howard, film composers David Hirschfelder and Nigel Westlake and singer/songwriter Jenny Morris. A 46-piece orchestra entertained the 450 invited industry guests.
Among this year's judges were Iva Davies (founding member of the band Ice House and composer of films including Master and Commander: The far side of the world), Bruce Rowland (composer of award winning soundtracks for Man from Snowy River, Phar Lap and Rebel), David Hirschfelder (composer of Shine, Better Than Sex, Elizabeth, and Sliding Doors) and David Bridie (founding member of Not Drowning, Waving and composer for films including In A Savage Land).

The renowned Elmer Bernstein received the AFI/APRA International Prize for Excellence presented by filmmaker and Patron of the AFI George Miller to Nancy Knutsen from ASCAP in Bernsteins absence.
Bruce Smeaton was awarded International Achievement Award for his body of works over the past 30 years, comprising of 31 Feature Films and 24 TV Productions. He is best known for his scores - Picnic at Hanging Rock, Roxanne, The Cars That Ate Paris and The Chant of Jimmy Blacksmith. Smeatons contribution to the betterment of working conditions for Australian Composers was also acknowledged.
